Dec 21, 2021 · Ignore all advice which tries to match a boiler to the number and size of radiators. - It is better to have oversized radiators to allow your boiler to run at lower flow temps (and condense more) - Older boilers (not sure how old yours is) were designed to run at an 11 degree delta. Modern condensing boilers run at a 20 degree delta.

The venting would in many or most cases NOT be done if downsizing the cast iron boiler for a better fit to the actual load, and would need a right-sized flue liner to improve stack velocity in order to reduce risk of backdrafting &/or flue condensation.

Yes the boiler will modulate but what when it's -2°c outside, the boiler is at full output and then you switch on an electric cooker, plus your 1 or 2 32 amp ring mains and your lighting circuits etc etc. Admittedly this is an extreme situation scenario but like heating systems shouldn't all electrical systems be designed with max load in consideration?

Nov 20, 2021 · The MI's for the boiler will suggest that a system volume calculation be done to ascertain the total volume / temp / expansion and more is added to meet the system requirements. I would say you'd be around 12-14L to allow a good chunk of headroom, so adding another 7-8L would be what I would be doing if I was fitting that lot.

Observed the boiler for a while, looks like the flash back was a result of delay ignition. Ignition didn't happen till 2-3 seconds after the gas valve opened. Took the polit apart and cleaned it. Polit flame looks a lot more like it was before the new valve, a lot longer and is actually blue now Boiler runs alot smoother and quiter now.

With the make-up valve closed the only thing that will affect the pressure is the boiler operation and the pressure will either stay at one level (20-25# is OK) or may fluctuate with 15# as the low pressure.

Heat loss has to be calculated for each room, HW cylinder load factored in, a percentage allowance applied (wonder if still needed what with global warming) and then you have a total that a boiler needs to deliver.
